Bhumi aspires to create well-being for the largest numbers of people, especially for communities that experience crippling economic impoverishment. Our inquiry around well-being and poverty resulted in an understanding, that the well-being of communities is dependent upon certain standards of services that are provided for communities across five areas viz.,

2. Livelihoods
3. Health & Wellness
4. Water & Sanitation
5. Environment
Our inquiry also helped us understand that Governance is the only institution in any society that is vested with the responsibility of ensuring well-being for all. Poor leadership within governance frameworks is the most significant reason for rampant poverty as is experienced in India. A citizenry that’s ill-informed and poorly engaged with governance naturally supports and strengthens corruption and inefficiency within governance. We have identified ineffective leadership and disengaged citizenry as the cornerstones on which the rampant poverty of India thrives.
We believe that Social Entreprenuership is another aspect on which sustainable communities are built. This is based on the understanding that systemic transformation takes its own time and short-term and mid-term solutions are necessary to address immediate and debilitating challenges . This is why micro-enterprise hubs and a spirit of entrepreneurship are important and empowering ways to address these challenges. Bringing other non-governmental organizations together in an organized manner, mobilizing the community, creatively raising funds and bringing together resources are also some aspects of crafting these solutions.
